After winning the comfort prize with C4 Cactus Hatch at carwow’s inaugural car of the year awards in 2018, Citroën has bagged the prestigious title again, this time with its latest model – New C5 Aircross SUV. Karl Howkins, Citroën UK’s Managing Director, accepted the trophy on behalf of the brand and the Citroën design team.
The awards were voted for by carwow’s team of reviewers, led by Editorial Director Mat Watson. The aim of the awards is to recognise and reward the best cars in the UK automotive market, reflecting the requirements and trends of carwow’s car buying audience. The carwow awards recognise the best cars in terms of Tech, Comfort, Value and Green Credentials, amongst a number of other categories.
The ‘Comfort Award’ identifies the car that stands out for unrivalled driver and passenger comfort. The panel of carwow judges praised New C5 Aircross SUV for its comfortable seats, second row modularity, outstanding space and smooth ride, all achieved thanks to Citroën’s Advanced Comfort Programme® that features Progressive Hydraulic Cushions® and Advanced Comfort seats.
The Citroën brand’s unique suspension system with Progressive Hydraulic Cushions® – technology that integrates hydraulic bump stops to better control compression and rebound – ensures that the suspension travel is much more progressive, even on the most adverse of surfaces.
As for the seating, New C5 Aircross SUV features sumptuous Advanced Comfort seats, fitted as standard on the top ‘Flair’ and ‘Flair Plus’ trim levels, which have so far accounted for 97% of UK sales. With broad cushions and seat backs, they combine high-density foam at the heart of each seat, a thick, textured foam on the surface and electric adjustment on the driver’s side. This ensures optimum comfort on any journey.
It isn’t just the front seat occupants who can relax in optimum comfort either. In the rear, three individual sliding, folding and reclining seats – and best in class boot volume of up to 720 litres – ensure there is plenty of space for all the family to travel in unrivalled comfort.
Mat Watson, Editorial Director at carwow, commented: “The pressure to make modern cars more stylish, agile, but also comfortable is a constant headache for engineers. Big wheels and taut suspension rarely equal a cosseting ride. C5 Aircross focuses on style and comfort first, as an SUV should, and we love it for that.”
Karl Howkins responded: “It’s an honour to receive the comfort award for New C5 Aircross SUV from carwow. With the Citroën Advanced Comfort programme, we continue our aim of being the reference for total comfort in the automotive industry. Citroën’s latest model, New C5 Aircross SUV, embodies outstanding modularity and comfort, which makes it a perfect choice for packing up and heading out on a family adventure in style.”
